Jean Gerard joined HySA Systems in 2019 as a Key Technology Specialist. Having previously completed his B.Eng. and Ph.D. in Thermofluids Engineering at Stellenbosch University, he brings more than five years’ experience in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system development to the HySA Systems team. Jean Gerard has a keen research interest in advanced and renewable power generation cycles including but not limited to Stirling, low-temperature hydrogen fuel cell and supercritical CO2 Brayton cycles. His responsibilities include the thermal modelling, energy management and subsystem integration and testing of various Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Prototypes. At present, Jean Gerard serves as Lead Technical Design Engineer on the development of a prototype 30/40 kWe hydrogen fuel cell range extender, and as Principle Thermal Engineer on the development of a 1 kWe fuel cell power module for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Long Endurance Modular UAV (LEMU).
